Paying homage to existing modular PowerEdge products lines (C Series, M1000e/M Series blades and VRTX) the newly announced (availability starting in December) FX2 represents Dell's vision of converged infrastructure. FX2 is a 2U chassis that can accommodate compute, storage and networking sleds letting one tailor the solution to their individual needs. Compute sleds will come in both Intel Atom (FM120x4) and Xeon (FC630) flavors in 1U half-width form factors with future models bringing quarter and full width options. Also awaiting a first half of 2015 launch is a 1U half-width storage option the FD332 and network IO aggregrator FN IOA.
The standard compliment of Dell's iDRAC and CMC technologies will make deployment and ongoing management an easy task for system admins already familiar with the aforementioned modular servers.
